1. Terminology
a. Design
Design is the creation of a plan
or convention for the construction of an object or
a system. Design is essentially a
rational, logical, sequential process
intended to solve problems.
b.
Module
Module is a unit of learning materials
designed specifically so that it can be studied by learners independently. It is a complete learning program, arranged
systematically, referring to the learning objectives are clear and measurable. Module
contains learning objectives, materials and activities to
achieve the goals and means of evaluation of the achievement of learning
objectives. Usually used as learning materials

Descriptive text
It
is a kind of genre that social function to describe a particular person, place, or thing. Descriptive text is a text which say what a person or a thing is like.
Description is used in all form of writing to create a vivid impression of a
person, place, object or event.
d.
Contextual
Another
definition promoted by Johnson (2002:25) is that Contextual teaching and
learning is an educational process that help student see meaning in the
academic subject with the context of their daily lives, that is, with the
context of their personal, social, and cultural circumstances.
2. Limitation
Regarding the background of the study above, this research focuses on the
developing Contextual module to improve students’ writing ability, to know how
the researcher design the module to solve the students’ problem in writing descriptive text.
